National free and fair elections consultative meeting opens in Kampala

A three-day national consultative meeting on free and fair elections has opened in Kampala.
The meeting which opened on Monday is a culmination of the 14 regional meetings held across the country since the beginning of this year.
Over Some of the notable opposition members who attended the meeting include, former FDC president Kizza Besgye, FDC leader Mugisha Muntu, Uganda Federal Alliance president Betty Kamya, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Wafula Oguttu, leader of the Conservative Party John Ken Lukyamuzi and the former Katikiiro of Buganda Joseph Mulwanyamuli Ssemogerere, among others.
However, President Yoweri Museveni who was invited as the chief guest for the meeting did not show up. The president was also expected to open the meeting.
The Executive Director NGO Forum Richard Ssewakiryanga says the meeting is meant to discuss the proposals and recommendations given by the public on free and fair elections across the country.
Mr Ssewakiryanga says a national document of constitutional and electoral reforms will be compiled at the end of the meeting and later be presented to parliament.
