Five of the six suspects accused of causing the death of former Butaleja District Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda have been released on cash a bail of Shs10 million each, two months after they were remanded at Luzira prison.

The five, released by Makindye Chief Magistrate, Esther Nambayo, are Mr Abid Rashid Butt, Mr Noor Abubakar, Mr Khan Babu Abdul, Mr Ali Omar Almuzahim and Ms Fatuma Babu.

The magistrate ordered the suspects to deposit their passports with court. Their sureties were, meanwhile, asked to each deposit a land title registered in their names.

However, Adam Suleiman Kalungi, the key suspect, was not released since he had not applied to be released like his co-accused. It was not clear why Mr Kalungi declined to apply to be released.

Mr Kalungi was returned to Luzira prison where he has been since January 7, when he was formally charged.

Court fixed March 5 for hearing of the case.
