Adam Suleiman Kalungi Friday sentenced to four years imprisonment after being found guilty of causing the death of former Butaleja District Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda on December 14 2012.

Makindye Chief Magistrate Esta Nambayo last week found Mr Kalungi guilty of manslaughter charges, a charge that attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. She however, deferred to today.

In her judgment, Ms Nambayo observed that Mr Kalungi was remorseful during the trial.

She, however, faulted him for running to Kenya immediately after the death of Nebanda “yet he would have remained behind to explain to the people of Butaleja what had happened.

Ms Nambayo said a medical report about the death of Nebanda indicated that the former vocal legislator died of multiple organ failure that was caused by alcohol and drugs but Kalungi was not directly responsible for administering them to her.

Ms Nambayo said the four years in prison would help Kalungi develop a sense of responsibility.
