Business came to a stand still on Saturday in Kabale Town as residents welcomed the newly appointed Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

Dr Rugunda was the Kabale Municipality MP from the late 1980’s until 2001 when he retired. He attributed his appointment to the huge support the NRM and President Museveni receives from Kigezi sub-region and Kabale District in particular.

District councillors Julius Barutsya and Benson Ainebyoona welcomed the appointment, but asked Dr Rugunda to start from where former premier Amama Mbabazi ended in terms of the development of Kigezi.

“We are so blessed to have the son of the soil, Dr Rugunda, replacing Amama Mbabazi. This shows how President Museveni loves Kigezi sub-region. Let’s work together to develop our region,” Mr Ainebyoona said.

Hundreds of people waited on the Kabale-Mbarara road from as far as 10km to the town to welcome Dr Rugunda’s procession as they sang praises of President Museveni and the new premier.

Kabale Municipality NRM chairperson Robert Matsiko said the appointment of Dr Rugunda was good for creating and reuniting the divided NRM party leaders in Kabale.
