Government through the Ministry of Internal Affairs has granted districts in Greater Luweero an immigration office to handle the increasing cases of aliens entering this area.

The move was announced by the Internal Affairs minister Aronda Nyakairima while conducting a regional review meeting for the national ID registration project for the districts of Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola in Luweero Town last Friday. He said the office, to be located in Luweero District, would help resolve problems currently encountered by district leaders in handling aliens.

“Aliens need to be officially registered. We need to take security matters seriously by finding out which people are entering Uganda and the purpose and final destination,” Gen Nyakairima said.

According to Gen Nyakairima, Greater Luweero has registered fewer challenges in the ongoing mass ID registration exercise due to the vigilance of both coordinating and technical teams.

However, leaders asked the minister to urgently address the challenge of increasing aliens in the districts of Kiboga and Kyankwanzi and cult groups in Luweero and Nakasongola districts.

Members of the Ejiri cult based in Kamira Sub-county in Luweero District and Kalongo Sub-county in Nakasongola District have reportedly refused to register for the national ID project.

Cult members, according to the Luweero deputy RDC, Ms Persis Namuganza, say the exercise is demonic and against biblical teachings in the book of Revelation which cautions Christians about the end of the world.
