Ninth person remanded over Magara murder

KAMPALA: Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded another suspect in the murder of Susan Magara.
Musa Abbas Buvumbo, 23, appeared before magistrate Robert Mukanza on two counts of
kidnap with intent to procure a ransom and murder contrary to provisions of the Penal Code Act.
Court did not allow Buvumbo to take plea as the offences are of capital nature only tried by the High Court.

Buvumbo brings the number of suspects in the Magara murder to 10.
On May 18, eight people were charged with the murder. They are: Imam of Usafi Mosque Mahad Kasalita, Yusuf Lubega,32, a boda boda rider, Hussein Wasswa,22, a hawker, Muzamiru Ssali,27, boda boda rider , Hajara Nakandi,35, a teacher, Abubaker Kyewolwa, 30, a businessman, Hassan Kato Miiro, 22, and Ismail Bukenya, a businessman.
Court extended a warrant of arrest to another suspect, Patrick Kasaija, 36, upon hearing from prosecution that he is still at large in South Africa.

The suspects were arrested on April 27 after a raid on Usafi Mosque in Kiguli Village, Kisenyi Parish by a joint force of army and police.
Prosecution contends that the accused persons and others still at large on February 7, 2018 kidnapped Magara, a cashier with Bwendero Dairy Farm (BDF) with intent to procure a ransom or benefit from her liberation from the danger of being murdered.

The charge sheet further states that the accused and others still at large on February 27 at Kigo in Wakiso district murdered Magara.
The deceased was kidnapped while driving to her home in Lungujja, Rubaga Division and taken captive for 20 days until she was murdered in cold blood and body dumped off Entebbe road.
The accused will reappear in court on June 28.
