Nkumba University in Entebbe has been closed with immediate effect following a three day students’ strike that has paralysed business at the institution over increased fees.
The university Council chairman, Mr Byatike Matovu who made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon said all students should leave the university premises and hostels, until further communications from the university.
Police is still deployed at the university to ensure that there are no further damages caused by the striking students.
Students on Monday morning went on strike protesting the university management’s decision to increase retake and missed paper fees.

The University management had increased retake fees from Shs 100,000 to 200,000 and missed paper fees from Shs20, 000 to Shs100,000 for this Semester.
However, the students protested and demanded for the dismissal of the new academic registrar, Ms Christine Kyayonka.
The students are also protesting the university management’s decision to block all students who did not register from sitting exams. Students at the university were expected to start exams this week.
