This was followed by MPs calling for the suspension of Dr Seguya on grounds that this would reduce interference with the team from the IGG that is going to undertake the investigations

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Executive Director has scoffed at reports of his suspension over theft of 1,355kgs of ivory from UWA’s strongroom.
Sections of the Media on Thursday said Dr Andrew Seguya had been asked to step aside by the Authority’s board of trustees to pave way for investigations into the said theft.
Speaking to Daily Monitor from the Authority’s headquarters in Kamwokya, Dr Seguya said he was not aware of the said suspension.
“I wondered where such information was coming from,” he said.
He also down played calls by Members of Parliament for him to step aside, arguing that he caused the audit of the ivory stocks.

This comes a few days after the suspension of five officers from the Authority’s law enforcement department in connection with the said theft of ivory.
Last week, President Yoweri Museveni asked the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Irene Mulyagonja to investigate the disappearance of the ivory seized from poachers and wildlife traffickers since 1990.
Subsequently, the minister of tourism Ms Maria Mutagamba, early this week wrote to the chairperson of the board of trustees, Mr Ben Otto, asking the board to take action. This was followed by MPs calling for the suspension of Dr Seguya on grounds that this would reduce interference with the team from the IGG that is going to undertake the investigations.
