No party but tears as dead student scores 14 points

There was no jubilation but tears for friends and relatives of former Ntungamo High School student on Wednesday as national exams body Uneb released results for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

Obadia Naturinda, who sat his UACE exams at Ntungamo High School last year, never lived to see his university-qualifying scores in History, Entrepreneurship, Geography, and subsidiary subjects General Paper and ICT.

Naturinda, who reportedly took his own life early this month after a bet in Ntungamo District had passed the UACE exams, scored 14 points, according to results released by Uneb on Wednesday.

The School head teacher, Mr Wilson Byamukama, said the deceased was a brilliant student who showed all indications that he would excel.

“We expected him to be among our best candidates. He used to excel in class and was a well behaved boy. It’s sad that he will not live to see his excellent exams results,” Mr Byamukama said.

Obadia 22, died at a clinic at Ruhaama trading centre on February 3, 2018, after only three hours when he reportedly took poison from his bedroom at Kahungye village, Rwengoma parish, Ruhaama Sub-county, Ntungamo District.
