Officers ask for better facilities

Jinja. The commandant of the Legal Training Centre (LTC) at Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja District, Col Richard Tukachungurwa, has asked the Ministry of Defence to improve on the quality of accommodation so as to attract international students at the military law institute.
According to Col Tukachungurwa, lack of suitable accommodation has failed to attract especially international students.
Briefing the State Minister for Defence, Mr Charles Okello Engola during a tour of the training centre last Friday, Col Tukachungurwa said: “We have challenges which we feel the Ministry of Defence should prioritise. The major one is lack of suitable accommodation for the students here.”
He continued: “We would want to have facilities that are commensurate to the students’ standards.”
It also emerged that the centre lacks a school van, a commandant’s vehicle and facilitation for the employees.
Mr Engola said the government is committed to solving the challenges the centre is grappling with, including the accommodation issue.
About the centre
The LTC was established in 2014 and it began operation in 2015. It is looking at developing into a centre of excellence in legal training in the East African region. It was established by former Netherland Defence attaché to Uganda, Commander Hof Hildegard.
