In Summary
Police officers residing at the newly renovated houses say the work is substandard.
Arua
Police officers in Arua District are raising queries over the poor quality of work on the Shs500 million renovation project of police barracks.
The Municipal Council authorities now claim the renovations, being done by the police, were not approved. Close to Shs130 million has already been used, but police officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said the quality of work done was substandard.
Though the renovation exercise kicked off last year, the work stalled at the beginning of the year due to lack of materials. According to the officers, the newly fitted wooden doors are getting deformed, some doors and windows are not fitting and the sewerage system is not functioning.
Poor state
Many of the houses at the barracks were eaten up by termites and the iron sheets are rotten. People living in the houses use boxes as window glasses.
