KAMPALA. Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo is facing it rough again with social media users after he shared a photo of Uganda Medical Association Chairperson Dr Ekwaro Obuku meeting with former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.

Mr Ofwono tweeted the photo of Dr Obuku meeting Dr Besigye at the latter’s home in Kasangati, Wakiso District. According to him, the meeting happened on Thursday just hours before President Museveni called off his planned meeting with striking doctors.

“Here Dr Obuku Ekwaro heading the ongoing doctor’s strike with Kizza Besigye yesterday,” it reads.
Social media users have however hit back at him, called him names and reminded him of his dirty past.
One tweep Ms Brenda Kitimbo replied, “Becoming a liar too? How do you shop lift and you aren’t a liar anyway. That’s an old photo taken when KB (Kizza Besigye) was under house arrest.”

Another who goes by the handle The Patriot @Danieobua said, “That picture was taken after elections last year which Kizza Besigye was under house arrest. I am sure your fellow underwear thieves will visit you when you get arrested just like just like doctors visited their own during difficult times.”
However, in his response, OO as he’s fondly called by his close friends said: “No one is saying it's a crime for Obuku to meet @kizzabesigye1. Just sharing that pic moment. Leave it to you.”

Nonetheless, Dr Obuku, confirmed in a phone interview that the picture was taken in 2016 when Dr Besigye was under house arrest.

“About 20 members of UMA visited Dr Besigye during the time he was arrested at his home after elections in 2016,” he said.
