One arrested over Rakai murder

One person has been arrested in connection with the hacking of a family of six in Rakai District over the weekend.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday while attempting to escape to Kalangala Islands hours after he was allegedly involved in the murder of one person and injuring four other members of the same family.

He is being detained at Kalisizo Police Station as investigations and search for his alleged accomplices continue.

Residents of Kisunku in Lwankoni Sub County, Rakai District were on Monday left in shock after the attack which left one person dead and four others critically injured.

The deceased, Ms Stella Kyomuhwezi, 21,  of Rusheshe, Kiruhura District was killed while her husband, Mr Joseph Sempijja and three relatives-Brian Ssemanda, Dimintiriya Nalwanga and John Ssegayi were seriously injured after machete-wielding attackers broke into their  house on Monday morning at about 2:00 am.

Following a tip off, the suspect was on Tuesday evening arrested at Bukakata landing site as he allegedly attempted to escape to Kalangala Islands.

 He reportedly denied being involved in the attack.

According to Mr Taban Chiriga, the district Criminal Investigations Officer, the suspect will be charged in court when investigations are complete.
