One dead, another injured in Mbale mudslides

The district councillor for Wanale Sub County, Mr Michael Mabonga told this reporter that about four villages are at high risk.

One person has been confirmed dead and another seriously injured in Mbale mudslides.
Peace Sandra Khainza, a 14-year-old pupil of Hilltop primary school is said to have died after a rock fell on her as she was coming from the garden at the hilly Bukhatoko village, Bubetsye Parish, Wanale Sub County in Mbale District.

The injured was identified as Moses Mafabi, 35. He’s admitted to Wanale health centre III.
The Elgon region police commander, Francis Chemusto confirmed the incident to this reporter saying the deceased was in the company of her parents from their farm when a rock fell on her following a heavy down pour.

He said the area was declared a no go zone following deadly mudslides that hit the area in the past.
The district councillor for Wanale Sub County, Mr Michael Mabonga told this reporter that about four villages are at high risk.
“We have some fresh cracks in these and we appeal to our people to vacate the area for the good of their lives," he said.
