One killed in Kamuli Mosque wrangle

KAMULI.

One person was killed in a Muslim Mosque wrangle in Kamuli on Friday.

Ausi Mukembo a self-appointed Imam of the disputed Mega Mosque and son to the Kayongo faction, self-appointed district Khadhi Sheikh Shaban Waisadha had mobilized his supporters to go and disrupt the Juma prayers led by the Mubajje faction at the Mosque when the fracas broke out.

He is alleged to have been hit with a log by a one Saidi Mukembo who is currently under police custody to help during investigations. 

The Kamuli DPC Collin Kyasimire said the deceased and a host of his supporters raided the Mosque during Juma prayers and were overpowered.

He added that the deceased was hit on the head and rushed to the clinic before he was, moments later pronounced dead on arrival Kamuli at Mission Hospital.

Sheikh Waisadha mourned the demise of his son saying he has been a religious sacrifice and martyr but vowed to continue pursuing what he termed as “the rights of the Muslim fraternity.” 

“These people have always wanted to finish us over our rights and fight for Islam and have done so today. My son has been a Martyr in this Jihad,” he mourned. 

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha said Police is already holding Mukembo over murder charges and will investigate, apprehend and bring to book all those involved in chaos. 

“We have always been asking these warring factions to come to terms, sit together and have peace instead of using the wrong force because Islam is a religion of peace. I will not tolerate hooliganism and fanaticism any longer,” Kasadha warned.
