Onyango laid to rest

Also laid to rest yesterday was former academic registrar of Makerere University Bernard Onyango. was laid to rest at Kiyeyi village, Tororo district.
During his burial at Kiyeyi village in Tororo District, leaders called on government to accord equal respect and send-off to all Ugandans who served the country diligently.
The call, which was acknowledged by Lands minister Daudi Migereko, was made by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mr Nandala Mafabi, who observed that the late Onyango deserved a State burial following his undisputed contribution and achievements to the country.
“MPs are given state burials in recognition of their contribution upon demise. Why couldn’t Bernard deserve the same? I call upon government to give equal respect to all Ugandans who have served the country in a distinguished manner,” Mr Mafabi said.
Mr Migereko, who delivered President Museveni’s condolence message and a Shs10 million contribution to the bereaved family to facilitate burial arrangement, promised that government would soon table a motion in Parliament to provide for special respect in recognition of one’s contribution to the county’s development.
Leaders were called to emulate the fallen educationist who was praised for his integrity.
