Jinja- Unidentified people last week dropped two piglets on Kutch Road with labels attacking Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru.

The piglets were painted blue, the colour largely associated with the Opposition FDC, to which Mr Mwiru subscribes.

The tags tied around the piglets had messages accusing the MP of failing to deliver on his promises to the constituents.

Some of messages read, “In 2012 you promised voters a public library to help children attain education …but all in vain.”

The other messages were that Mr Mwiru is not a qualified lawyer and, that he should stop his arrogance.
By the time police arrived at the scene, some unidentified person had taken away the piglets.

A man in his 20s whose identity was not established is said to have picked the piglets and put them back in a box saying he could not let them either be taken by police or knocked by running cars yet he can get money out of them.

Jinja District police commander Geofrey Kainamura said police was investigating the matter. “We received the information but by the time my officers reached the scene, they were not there.

But we suspect it was the work of jobless youth who need to be guided by their leaders to spend their time productively other than causing commotion in town,” he said.

Mr Mwiru blamed the incident on politicking by his political rivals. “There is time for everything and such childish games are expected in politics but for me I know that time for accountability is coming and I will account for what I did and what I failed to do,” he said.

Some people who preferred anonymity said the act was orchestrated by FDC members to punish Mr Mwiru for his allegiance to former prime minister Amama Mbabazi who is now a presidential aspirant.

They say Mr Mwiru is being attacked for his alleged abandoning of Dr Kizza Besigye, the FDC flag bearer.

However, others claim Mr Mwiru’s political rivals from NRM party were behind the act.
This is not the first time pigs were dropped in Jinja.

In May, a group of youth suspected to belong to the Jobless Brotherhood aboard a Super Custom vehicle dropped two yellow-painted piglets with messages denouncing the NRM government for failure to address youth unemployment.
