Kasese- President Museveni has blamed the unfulfilled pledges on Opposition parliamentarians and local leaders who don’t make a follow up with government departments.
The President while campaigning at Kisinga playground in Bukonzo East, Kasese District, an FDC stronghold, cited the persistent attack by wild animals from Queen Elizabeth National Park on residents and destruction of their gardens.
“I am now going to work on fencing the park. We have talked about this for long. The problem is that you have been sending people who do not work with the NRM. Because of that, some of the issues that disturb you are not known by government. I know the big problems like roads and electricity but I need leaders on the ground to tell me the issues at the grassroots. Those should be brought up by your leaders, you should get me an NRM Member of Parliament to follow up issues,” he said.
The president last Saturday started his campaign trail in the Rwenzori sub-region. Kasese district is one of the strongholds of the Opposition FDC. In Bukonzo East where he held the rally, Member of Parliament Yokasi Bihande (FDC) has represented the area for two consecutive terms.
He is not in the race to retain his seat after he lost in the party primaries in October 2015. Kasese Woman Member of Parliament Winnie Kiiza is wife of Mr Bihande and the Kisinga Sub-county chairperson Chance Kahindo is also an FDC and a flag bearer.
The President also pledged to build another hospital in Bukonzo East because the Kagando Hospital is a missionary hospital and some locals can’t afford the charges. “We know there is Kagando Hospital for the church. I want to build a hospital at Nyabirongo so that those who cannot afford to go to Kagando where they pay can go to Nyabirongo where they do not pay,” he said. Mr Museveni also held rallies at Muhokya in Busongora South, Kasanga in Bukonzo West and Maliba in Busongora North.
