Opposition wants me to do many things to fail my govt - President

PADER.

President Museveni has claimed that the Opposition politicians are planning for the downfall of his government by advocating all the time that he must perform many things at ago.

“These people… Opposition, they don’t want planning, they want okutomera [Luganda word literally to bump] , they want us [NRM] to fail because if you don’t plan you fail, that’s why they [Opposition] say ducu ducu [Acholi word meaning all]. How can you say ducu, that means you want me to fail,” Museveni said.

He added: “You the NRM people, you must be very careful about this people [Opposition], they want us to fail, that is why they want us to do so many things so that none is done.”

“You touch here, you touch there, you don’t finish anything and in the end there is nothing. But for we [NRM] do it kore ki kore [Acholi word loosely meaning step by step]
Mr Museveni made the remarks while campaigning for his party flag bearer in the Aruu North County parliamentary race, Mr Nabinson Kidega, at Pajule Primary School in Lapul Sub-county, Pader District, on Tuesday.

He acknowledged that running a government is not easy but noted that different people have different styles of running the government.

Mr Kidega is competing against five other candidates, including his rival and close competitor, Ms Lucy Achiro Otim on an independent ticket, Mr George Obina Ology of Democratic Party, Justine Oryema Boswell, David Ojera and Henry Komakech Banya.

Using a mixture of English and Acholi through the help of an interpreter, Mr Museveni told locals who lost their cattle during the insurgencies in northern Uganda, and army veterans to be patient as his government ‘systematically’ work towards compensating them.

“Little faith is bad, it’s too bad… because if we can do a road like this one from Olwiyo all the way to Sudan border, if we can take electricity up to Karamoja, how much money do you think we have spent, how shall we fail to pay cattle or the money of the veterans which is much less than that money for road,” Mr Museveni said.

Mr Museveni said his NRM-led government believes in delivering promises one time at ago citing God who created earth from Monday to Friday and he summarised his creation by making human beings on the sixth day.

“Does it mean that human beings who were created on the sixth day are less important or can you charge God he didn’t create human beings on Monday, because he will answer you were will the human beings be if I didn’t create other things first? This is what planning is, doing one thing after the other,” Mr Museveni said.

The President also told NRM supporters that his government has over the years worked tirelessly in restoring peace, improving education, health and extending electricity lines from Lira district to Kitgum and Pader district.

He later addressed locals at Atanga Secondary School in Atanga Sub-county.

Mr Kidega applauded the President and asked locals to vote him for better service delivery in the districts.

EC has earmarked April 6 for the by-election in Aruu North Constituency that fell vacant in February this year.

Meeting Akena’s family
Meanwhile, President Museveni yesterday met the parents of Kenneth Watmon Akena who was shot near Game Store in Kampala and later died in hospital in November last year.
The President met Mr Francis Omona (dad), Susan Omona (mum) and uncles Ojok Ojara and Geoffrey Lamtoo today in Pajule, Pader District.

He condoled with the family over the loss of their son and thanked them for maintaining calmness in this trying time. He assured them that justice would be dispensed since suspects were under trial. The family thanked the President for meeting them and said they were looking forward to a speedy and fair trial.
