KAMPALA. The youth leadership league of opposition Democratic Party have taken to the street to demonstrate against their leaders accusing them of blackmail and hypocrisy.
Mr Bosco Lusagala, DP youth chairman and councillor in Makindye Division, a Kampala city suburb told Daily Monitor that they do not trust the elders of the party because they are hypocrites and have betrayed them by working with President Museveni.

“Most of these old people in the party are just hypocrits. We want them to give the youth a chance to steer the party because they are always playing with us and yet they collaborate with the ruling party. We have been quiet for long but I think we need a more vigorous way of opposing this regime,” he said.

This comes as DP is holding the first ever UYD alumni assembly at Makerere rugby grounds in Kampala.
Some of the delegates at the assembly include former DP president Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere, MPs Medard Ssegona, MP for Makindye-Ssabagabo municipality Emmanuel Kigozi, Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi and Dr Klaus Schuller, the managing director of Christian Democratic Union and campaigning manager of German chancellor Angel Merkel among other delegates.

DP Spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande could not be reached for a comment because he was attending the conference.

Mr Geoffrey Kaweesa, a DP youth activist said they will demonstrate to alert their leaders that there is need for more commitment the party.
“We need to see more commitment from these so-called leaders of ours, otherwise NRM is taking it all. We need to stop it,” he said.
