State Minister for Higher Education John Chrisestom Muyingo has told parents to guard against individuals conning them of money in disguise of giving their children scholarships.

He said his ministry offered scholarships free of charge.
“I also have scholarships for children but my scholarships are free for the bright but disadvantaged children whose parents cannot raise school fees,” Dr Muyingo told parents of Wakatayi Secondory School in Zirobwe Sub-county on Wednesday.

Dr Muyingo, also MP for Bamunanika County in the Luweero District, revealed that government scholarships, through the Students Loan Scheme, will be effected in the next financial year, adding that this will enable students get both tertiary and university education.

He also complained about the poor attendance by students, saying it was already the second week, but students were seen busy doing garden work at home. “This is a bad trend for our children in Luweero District,” he said.
