Visa fees collected from foreigners who enter Uganda through Entebbe International Airport are not receipted.

The reasons remain unclear since the Internal Affairs ministry, which the Premier, Rukahana Rugunda, had tasked to explain, has not yet offered an explanation.

Also unknown – except to those who have been, and might still be, collecting the fee – is how much.

Visa fees range from $50 for each individual, single entry within six months, $100 for multiple entry within one year, $150 for multiple entry within two years to $200 multiple entry within three years.

“This is serious financial haemorrhage of the financial resources of this country,” the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga said on Thursday at Parliament.

“We want an answer next week.”

The Member of Parliament for Kawempe South, Latif Sebaggala, raised the matter last month.

Mr Sebaggala said they urgently need an answer.

“Up to now, we haven’t received any report about the un-receipted visa fee collectiins. This issue is serious; we need an explanation urgently."

Some of them though are from countries whose nationals do not need visas to enter Uganda.
