Flag bearers & primaries
“When we come up with a date, we shall meet the candidates and ask them to choose one person who can run as the flag bearer. But if they fail, we shall arrange primaries which will be held on the 18th to come up with one candidate,” FDC electoral commissioner Dan Mugarura said yesterday.
The seat fell vacant on December 14 following the death of Cerinah Nebanda. There are 10 candidates who have shown interest in the position, including Nebanda’s elder sister, Ms Florence Nebanda Adiru, 27, who declared her intentions to contest on the NRM ticket.
Updating of voters register has already started, while nominations for candidates will take place on January 21 and 22, and thereafter campaigns will kick off for February 18.
