Health workers at Jinja Referral Hospital have issued the hospital administration with a notice to either pay their salary arrears and allowances or deal with the consequences of strike action.

A number of the health workers who talked to Daily Monitor on Tuesday said that they have not been paid salaries and allowances since August last year and that no explanation has been given.

The hospital director, Dr Michael Osinde, confirmed that some of the health workers have not been paid.

“It is true that sections of our medical personnel have not been paid since August. They informed me about this problem and their intention to down tools if they are not paid, but my hands are tied right now,” Dr Osinde said.

He said the management is in touch with the workers and that efforts are being made to have the Ministry of Health release their pay.
