Petition to recall Parliament finally submitted
Posted Monday, January 7 2013 at 19:11
Legislators have submitted a petition to have Parliament recalled from recess to the office of Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga.
This follows recent press reports that the petition had hit a snag and the MPs had failed to raise the required 125 signatures.
The legislators want Parliament recalled to discuss the political storm between the Executive and Legislature, which has seen a number of MPs arrested and charged with an assortment of crimes over their comments on the death of Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda.
The petition was submitted by one of the lead petitioners, Denis Hamson Obua of Ajuri County, to Patrick Ngolobe, who acted on behalf of the Principal Private Secretary to the Speaker, Cosian Opata. Ms Kadaga, the Speaker of Parliament, is said to be away in Kamuli District doing constituency work.
Mr Obua told journalists that they have obtained the required number of signatures.
