Photo of terror suspect in Uganda released

Suspected al-Shabaab terrorist Ahmed Khalid Mueller is thought to have slipped into Uganda.

The photographs of a suspected al-Shabaab terrorist wanted by Kenyan security agencies, and now suspected to have crossed into Uganda on a Kaliita Bus have been released by the police.

Deputy Police spokesperson, Ms Judith Nabakooba said they are still hunting for the suspect, Ahmed Khalid Mueller, who they say is a German national.

“We would like to call upon the members of the public to be calm and not panic in the face of these terrorist attacks. By working together we shall defeat the terrorists,” Ms Nabakooba said.

Chronology of events according to police

While boarding Kampala-bound Kaliita Bus, Reg. No. KBF 057N, all passengers had their photographs taken. However, when the bus reached Limulu in Kenya, it stopped and a man, believed to be the suspect, boarded with only a carry-on bag.

The bus stopped three kilometres to the border crossing at Busia, and the alighted the bus. It continued on to the immigration offices at the border where all the passengers were subjected to the mandatory checking-in.

A few miles on the Uganda side, the bus stopped and the suspect boarded again.

A woman among the passenger who had seen his “wanted” photo in Nairobi took his photo as he boarded the bus again.

As the bus was about to reach Kampala he told the conductor to have the bus stopped so he could get off. But the conductor told him there was a taxi waiting for him in Kampala. The bus continued on to Jinja Road where he got off.

We suspect that this is a terrorist wanted by Kenya. We have summoned the conductor and driver of the bus to give us more information about the suspect. We are also liaising with our Kenyan counterparts to share more information about the suspect.
