Police pick up TOP Radio presenter, Kamagu

Police have arrested a Top FM presenter on allegations of criminal defamation.

Mr Richard Kasule alias Omugagga Kamagu was arrested in the morning at Top Radio station in Bwaise on Bombo Road, Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyesigire, said Kamagu is detained at Wandegeya Police Station.
Kamagu was arrested after he had just concluded hosting his daily morning show.

"He is still with detectives. His chat will inform us on the next move," Mr Owoyesigire said.

Police chased away people who had come to visit Kamagu at the station. An officer in a police uniform physically assaulted the journalist.

It is alleged that Kamagu made statements about regional imbalance on his show.

Kamagu also talked about the inefficiencies in the police force.

This is not the first time he has been arrested. In November 2013, Kamagu and two other journalists were arrested on charges of incitement to violence.
