Police arrest three suspected serial armed robbers

Police have arrested a group of three suspected armed robbers who were allegedly planning an attack on a business enterprise in Kawempe.

The trio was arrested on Sunday afternoon at Maganjo near MM Pub in Kawempe division, Kampala. The trio, among whom was a security guard attached to a private security firm is suspected to have been behind several robberies in the city including the one in which a mobile money agent was murdered and robbed of money recently.

The arrests come amidst several unexplained murders including one that involved a Makerere University professor, Charles Ssekabembe whose body was found hanging on a tree in Mabira Forest in Mukono District in late July. Other mysterious killings have also been reported in Mukono, Arua and other parts of the country.

“We suspect this is the same group that attacked and killed a mobile money dealer in Lugoba last month,” Kampala metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Patrick Onyango told journalists at police headquarters in Kampala on Monday.

“We have recovered a gun and two rounds of ammunition which they have been using to rob people,” Mr Onyango said.
Mr Onyango said the suspects will be charged with aggravated attempted robbery.
