Police have banned motor rallies at Misaali Grounds at Nyendo, Masaka District, two days after close to 25 spectators were injured after a makeshift wooden pavilion from which they were following the proceedings of the rally collapsed on Saturday.
The incident happened at around 2 pm during the MPU Coca-cola challenge Rally that was won by Jas Mangat.
The pavilion served as a VIP watch tower for spectators who paid 5,000 shillings to access it.
Mr Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson says their security inspection team has banned the rally at the grounds until management constructs a permanent pavilion.
Ms Sharon Kintu, one of the survivors says she was following the proceedings of the rally and suddenly heard people crying for help as the pavilion collapsed.
Mr Daniel Masanso, who is receiving treatment at Byansi General Clinic in Masaka Town, said a sharp wood pierced him in the leg, causing a deep wound.
Mr Fulgensio Kavuma, one of the organisers of the rally declined to comment about the incident.
But Ms Elieza Mugisha, a Principal Administrator at Masaka Hospital says at least 20 people who were admitted with injuries have been discharged.
