The outgoing Luweero District Police Commander, Mr Samuel Bamuzibire has said residents’ belief in witchcraft is fuelling crime in the area.

While handing over to Assistant Inspector of Police Godfrey Ninsiima, the new district police boss on Monday, Mr Bamuzibire said most crime cases registered in the district are linked to witchcraft.

He said that from the time he took over in December 2009, most cases of mob justice, murder and attempted murder stemmed from residents accusing their colleagues of bewitching them.

He said the belief in witchcraft is more rampant in Zirobwe Sub-county. Mr Bamuzibire was transferred to the Field Force Unit (FFU) in Kampala. Mr Ninsiima previously served in the police presidential protection squad.
