KAMPALA.

The outgoing commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KPM) has warned his successor not to succumb to pressure from the rich to be given police guards at the expense of the community.

Mr Haruna Isabirye told Mr Benjamin Namanya that the security demands from the rich people in the city are becoming a challenge for the commanders.

“Due to challenges of terrorism, everyone is feeling vulnerable and everyone wants guards. If we give guards to everyone, it will affect general security,” Mr Isabirye said while handing over office to Mr Namanya at the KPM headquarters yesterday.

Recently, the police chief, Gen. Kale Kayihura, complained that many police commanders are deploying the Force personnel at the premises of the rich which has affected general security.
Mr Isabirye was appointed KMP commander in September last year. He has now been transferred to the police directorate of operations as director.

Mr Namanya said he wants troops to be visible on ground
About 15 years ago, Mr Namanya was the commander of Kampala Extra region (now Kampala Metropolitan Police).
