KAMPALA- The Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, has removed the security officer’s in-charge of Makerere and Kyambogo universities following protracted investigations into suspected mismanagement.
In a message sent out yesterday, Gen Kayihura removed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amos Gumisiriza, who has been the security officer of Kyambogo University and is currently under investigations by the Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU).
Superintendent of Police (SP) Frank Byaruhanga, the in-charge of Makerere, who is alleged to have failed to provide accountability of Shs21 million given to him for the facilitation of officers at the January graduation, has also been removed and sent to the Police Human Resource Directorate for possible redeployment.
Although both are under investigations by the PSU, they deny any wrongdoing.
SSP Gumisiriza has been replaced by SP Andrew Mugarura while SP Byaruhanga has been replaced by cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police Jackson Mugunguzi.
Police spokesperson, Ms Judith Nabakooba, confirmed the changes but declined to state whether they were due to suspected mismanagement. “To us transfers are part of our normal operations. We expect them any time,” she said.
Gen Kayihura also transferred five officers from Kampala Metropolitan Police to Field Force Police in what Ms Nabakooba described as a reorganisation strategy to improve service delivery.
