A Police officer has died after falling off a dilapidated flat at Bombo Police Barracks, near the UPDF Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo Town, Luweero District.
According to Savana Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Lameck Kigozi, Detective AIP Ben Dickson Mugishya reportedly missed a step and fell from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor of one of the flats.
His body was found by one of the neighbours Wednesday morning.
"We are treating the incident as an accident. Ben Dickson Mugisha could have missed a step as he came down from the 3rd floor where he has been residing. His body was found by a neighbor in a pool of blood suggesting that he possibly hit a hard surface as he fell,” Mr Kigozi said.
Police officers and residents at the accident scene said most of the flats in the area are dilapidated and have no guard rails, thus exposing their occupants (police officers and members of their families) to potential accidents.
"These flats were built by Israel contractors who were expelled by former Uganda President Idi Amin before they were completed. Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura should visit this barracks and find a way of renovating them," Ms Karim Abdallah, a resident of Mpakawero Zone in Bombo Town told the Daily Monitor on Wednesday.
According to Mr Richard Emuna, the Officer in Charge of Bombo Police Station, the deceased who was staying alone in the flat was involved in community policing activities on Tuesday.
"Detective AIP Ben Dickson Mugisha was very active on Tuesday. We received the sad news with shock regarding our colleague who was very active during our routine community policing program on Tuesday," Mr Emuna said.
However, Daily Monitor could not independently verify whether it was an accident or suicide.
