Police file in Kaweesi murder suspect still missing

Court in Kampala has adjourned a case in which 19 people are accused of murder and treason following the gruesome killing of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi outside his house in Kulambiro in a Kampala suburb in March 2017.
Nakawa Grade one Magistrate, Noah Sajjabi on Tuesday adjourned the two cases; treason and murder to February 6 and March 6 respectively after the state prosecutor Ms Rachel Nabwire told court that she had not yet received the police file for the two cases.
Attempts by the defence lawyer, Mr Anthony Wameli to file an application challenging the ‘harsh punishment’ (death penalty) for treason convicts hit a snag after the magistrate told him that he could not entertain such an application when the police file was still missing in court.
During the case, one of the suspects, Ahmed Shaban Ssenfuka who was on January 9 granted bail but failed to raise the Shs2 million he was asked to deposit in court was also released after paying the money.
They are accused of murdering Kaweesi on addition to being investigated over the alleged connections with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group and actions of terrorism.
Other suspects are Umar Maganda, Abdul-Majid Ojerere, Ibrahim Kissa, Asuman Mugoya, Abudallah Khala alias Hibwangi Sinani, Umar Maganda, Sauda Ayub, Osman Muhammed Omar, Ali Mugoya, Ibrahim Ssemwanga alias superman and Swaleh Ddamulira, among others.
