Four people have been rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital as a result of suffocation after police fired teargas to disperse rioting traders at Kisekka market.
The traders’ strike ensued on Tuesday morning after Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement officers attempted to evict them from the road side where they are operating.
Kisekka market is currently under construction, and this has forced some traders to operate from the roadside pending completion of construction works.
The eviction has turned rowdy and the police have fired teargas to disperse the crowd.
Kisekka Market is closely watched by security personnel because it is usually the nerve centre of civil disobedience or protest in Kampala.
