Police hold woman over killing co-wife’s seven year-old daughter

Residents of Labongo Village in Amuru District were on Wednesday afternoon left in shock after a woman killed her co-wife’s seven-year-old daughter in suspected revenge. The child died by strangulation.
Ms Innocent Aloyo, reportedly strangled the girl, who was a pupil of Amuru Lamogi Primary School, after having a bitter a disagreement with the deceased’s mother on Wednesday.
Saturday Monitor understands that the suspect and her co-wife, Ms Beatrice Angee picked a fight from the garden over unknown reasons.
It is reported that after the quarrel, the suspect sneaked from the garden and killed the girl who was alone at home before fleeing to unknown hideout. She was later arrested in Pabbo Sub-county.
The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, on Thursday said the suspect is being detained at Pabbo Police Station.
“It’s unfortunate that the suspect decided to kill an innocent child for no reason,” Mr Okema said. “She had issues with her mother but the child was innocent. The law will take its course so that justice is accorded to the deceased family.”
The Amuru Resident District Commissioner, Mr Bilak Jalmoro, condemned the act and insisted the matter should have been settled without violence.
He called on families to engage more in peaceful dialogue to avoid bloodshed.
Meanwhile, the police in Gulu District have opened investigations into the mysterious death of their colleague who was found dead in a pit-latrine in Layibi Division, Gulu Municipality.
ASP Laban Tukamureeba, 36, the officer-in-charge of Main Bus Park police post, was found dead by his colleagues on Thursday. Mr Okema said Tukamureeba’s body was found lying on the pit latrine’s floor. Mr Okema said they are waiting for a postmortem report to ascertain the cause of his death.
