MBALE- Police in Mbale are investigating the cause of fire that gutted Net Gas Energy Fuel Station in Mbale Town on Monday, according to Mr Godwin Ochaki, the District Police Commander.

The fire razed the fuel station on Tuesday.

The blaze destroyed two trucks that were parked at the fuel station, among other valuables.

“This is a serious incident that put people’s lives at risk.  It calls for thorough investigations which we have started,” Mr Ochaki said adding that Police Fire Brigade evacuated staff and people from the scene.

He, however, said fuel stations should have functioning emergency fire response equipment.

“It’s not even unclear if the fuel station had functional emergency fire response equipment,” he said.

Mr Emma Mwabila, the manager of the fuel station said they cannot tell how the fire broke out. He said they lost property worth millions.

Last month, fire a broke out at a fuel station in Manafwa District reducing to ashes property worth millions of shillings, including eight commercial houses.
