Police in Kyotera District are investigating one of their own over allegations of hacking Robert Nakaana, 32, a resident of Kajaga Village in Kakuuto Sub County, Kyotera District.

The suspect, Ssebyaala Matuusa, 58, is attached to Kibanda police post in Rakai District.

According to Police preliminary investigations - Ssebyaala, together with Moses Kayisi and his brother only identified as Yusuf, last week stormed into Nakaana’s home in Kajaga and found Ms Sauya Nangeya (said to be a wife to Kayisi) in the house.

The trio reportedly started beating up Mr Nakaana and used a machete to cut his body as Ssebyaala threatened to shoot him in case he made an alarm.

According to the area councilor, Mr Anthony Ssengooba, when residents heard the scuffle, they rushed to Nakaana’s home but were dispersed by gunshots fired by Ssebyaala.
“He [Ssebyaala] fired in the air as he told us to pave way or else he would shoot us. The trio later jumped on a police motor bike and sped off,” Ssengooba said.

It is said that five months back, Kayisi married Nangeye, 25, but they got disagreements and the latter abandoned her matrimonial home and started staying with Nakaana which angered her husband.

But Ms Patience Baganzi, the Rakai District Police Commander denied reports that the police man hacked Mr Nakaana, saying he only got injured during the scuffle.
“We are still investigating the matter, but the information we have so far indicates that there was a scuffle. But we need to get evidence proving that the victim was actually hacked,” she explained.

Ms Baganzi, however, confirmed that Ssebyaala had been arrested while Mr Kayisi and his brother are still on the run.
“We condemn such misconduct by our officer and we are going to follow up this case and if the three culprits are found guilty, they will be convicted,” she added.
