Police officer dies in accident, two critically injured

A police officer attached to the Anti-Theft Stock Unit (ASTU) has died in a motor accident in Kitgum District.

Two senior police officers were seriously injured in a Sunday accident that occurred when a police double Cabin pick-up they were travelling in overturned at Guda Trading Centre, Namukora Sub-County north east of Kitgum town.

 The dead cop was identified as Constable Stephen Ojimam who doubled as the Units Clerk and body guard of the ASTU Commandant; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buruhani Belabamuzare.

Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson told URN on Monday that three police constables and three senior police officers were travelling from Abim via Lapono in Agago District, to Kitgum.

According to Mr Okema, the car overturned after the driver lost control when he reportedly tried to avoid knocking a woman who was riding a bicycle.

He said SSP Belabamuzare and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lydia Amuge were critically injured.

URN has learnt that SSP Belabamuzare and ASP Amuge have ben airlifted from St. Mary's Hospital Lacor to Mulago Referral Hospital for better management.
