Another police officer attacked, gun taken

A police officer attached to Sofia Police Station in Busia District located at the Uganda-Kenya border is currently nursing wounds after unidentified thugs attacked him while on duty and took off with his gun.

The Bukedi region Police spokesperson, Mr Sowali Kamulya, identified the injured police officer as No.64625 PC, Stafford Walusansa, who was reportedly attacked on Sunday night at about 11pm at the Police Station in Busia municipality.

“He was shot by the two armed assailants, who were putting on the jackets. We have recovered a pistol from the crime scene which the assailants used,” he said, adding that police detectives also recovered a magazine containing four live ammunitions, a cartridge, a projectile, a rifle and a watch.

Mr Kamulya said preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants were using a Kenyan registered motorcycle, whose registration number was not yet known by press time.

This comes just three days after two police officers were attacked and killed by unknown assailants. Their guns were taken after the attack that happened in Kawempe Division in Kampala.
