IGANGA- A police inquest into circumstances under which a female police officer collapsed in a bar and later died, is underway in Iganga District.

Ruth Nangobi, 58, attached to Iganga Police Station, collapsed on Tuesday died in the bar in Iganga Town where she had gone with friends for drinks.

A police officer who spoke to Daily Monitor on condition of anonymity in order to speak freely, said her colleague collapsed as she returned from the washrooms.

"We were boozing together before she decided to go for a short call. However, on her way back, she collapsed,” said the police officer who also declined to name the bar where the incident happened.

The officer said her colleague was rushed to Iganga Municipal Council Health Centre III where her condition could not be managed and was transferred to Iganga Hospital where she died.

The Busoga East police spokesman, Mr James Mubi, confirmed the death of the officer. He said she was a barracks guard attached to Iganga Police Station.

“At the moment I cannot tell you much about the incident but we are investigating,” Mr Mubi said.
