Police officer on the run after defiling 15-year-old girl

LUWEERO- A police officer attached to Nyimbwa Police post in Luweero District is on the run after allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl who was in police custody.

The suspect reportedly went missing from his duty station on Wednesday and has been declared absent without official leave.

According to police preliminary investigations, the victim had been left under the suspect’s custody as investigations into her attempted suicide crime progressed.

“He disappeared from his duty station shortly after a case of defilement was registered at the same police in which it is alleged that he had defiled the  girl,” Mr Paul Kangave, the Savana Region Police spokesman said on Wednesday  .

The defilement case was registered at the Nyimbwa Police Post by the head teacher of St. Thereza Nandere Boys Primary School after the victim narrated the incident to her teachers on July 24.

The victim was taken to police by her mother following the girl's alleged threat to commit suicide

The girl sounded the threat after being punished by her mother for attending a party without her permission and returning home late in the night.

In Uganda, according to the Penal Code, any person who performs a sexual act with another person who is below the age of eighteen years, commits defilement and is on conviction liable to life imprisonment.
