Police officer shot in Gulu attack succumbs to injuries

One of the police officers who was shot and injured in the Sunday night shootout at Gulu Central Police Station has died.
Moses Masaba, the regional Fire Officer who had been admitted to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in critical condition following the shootout died Monday.

According to police, ASP Masaba, succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained Sunday night during the attack.
Police further noted that he was the senior Duty Officer on the night of the attack.
Masaba is the second security officer to die after the attack.
One Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier identified as Cpl Moses Edema died on spot while four injured security officers including Masaba, Ms Sunday Atimango, who was shot in the abdomen, Maj Jasper Komakech, Sgt Vincent Kibuye and Pte Michael Opoka Kilama were admitted in hospital.

Sgt Kibuye and Pte Kilama are admitted to the 4th Division Infantry Headquarters military hospital in Gulu Town.
Meanwhile, calm largely returned to Gulu Municipality yesterday as security forces stepped up investigations into the shootout.
Roads leading to Gulu Central Police Station and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital were sealed off as a team of police officers and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers conducted investigations at the scene of crime.
The UPDF spokesman, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, confirmed last evening that five suspects had been arrested.
