Police officer who allegedly assaulted journalists arrested

The Old Kampala DPC Joram Mwesigye has been arrested.

Detectives attached to Professional Standards Unit arrested the Old Kampala Police Station Commander after his brutal attack on journalists on Monday afternoon.

Superintendent Joram Mwesigye is now in police custody on charges of assault and indiscipline related cases.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Patrick Onyango, confirmed the arrest.

“He is detained and a statement is to be extracted from him to justify his actions,” Mr Onyango said.
It isn’t clear yet whether he is to appear in a police court or regular courts." He added.

Two scribes, Andrew Lwanga attached to WBS television and Joseph SSettimba working with Bukedde Television were allegedly battered while they covered the unemployed youth group.

The group was matching to Naguru police headquarters to seek permission for the different rallies this month.
