Hoima- Two police officers are being investigated over their alleged participation in robbery.

Armed with rifles, a group of criminals raided Budongo Sub-county in Masindi District on Thursday night and staged a robbery and stole unspecified amounts of money from businessmen operating gambling machines.

However, witnesses say, some residents mobilised themselves to tress the robbers and reportedly arrested one person who was handed over to police.

A pick-up truck that was being used by the robbers to transport the stolen items was intercepted and impounded by police which recovered six machines.

The suspected robbers allegedly used another car to escape, according to security officers.

The Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Julius Hakiza confirmed the incident but indicated that investigations are underway.

He said Police are investigating allegations that some police officers were involved in the robbery.

“Our officers have not yet been arrested. We are carrying out an identification parade to arrest those who were involved in the robbery because no one is above the law,” Mr Hakiza said on Saturday.

He said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident but he declined to reveal their identities on grounds that it could jeopardize investigations.
