Police in Mubende District are investigating the circumstances under which a pupil mysteriously fell sick before dying in hospital a few hours later on Wednesday morning.

According to eye witnesses, the incident occurred at Central Parents Nursery and Primary School in Kitenga Sub-county, Mubende District.

Witnesses say, the deceased, Jonathan Muhoozi, 5, was a son of John Muhoozi, a resident of Kyenda in Mubende District.

Jonathan went to school in good condition but while in class, he reportedly started coughing and he ran to the teacher who was writing on the chalk board, to seek help, according to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Norbert Ochom.

The teacher reportedly checked if Muhoozi had something in the mouth but found nothing.

Tension and confusion engulfed the school as pupils and teachers tried to help Muhoozi.

The incident temporarily disrupted teaching and learning at the school, according to witnesses.

The boy was rushed to Kyenda Health Centre and later referred to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital where he died, according to Mr Ochom.

The school head teacher, Mr Michael Eriku reported the matter to Kyenda Police post.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the boy’s death,” Mr Ochom said.
