Police in Kampala are investigating the mysterious death of a 22-year-old musician, Ivan Mukiibi, who went by the stage name, Rebson Soso.
Few Ugandans might have heard his songs but the manner of his death is likely to send chills among many and reveal dirt in the underworld of music.
Information from the family indicates that Mukiibi was killed on January 26 in Mutungo Zone II parish and his body dumped in Zone 8.

Police found the body and spent a week without anyone coming up to claim it, until relatives turned up to cause a re-opening of the file.
Family sources, including Mukiibi’s mother, suspect their son was killed over a recording deal that turned fatal.

They claim Mukiibi, days before his death, had signed a deal with a recording studio worth Shs20 million and asked a friend to pick part of the payment of Shs4million, now believed to have sparked his murder.

The revelation
A relative, who declined to speak on record for personal safety as he claims the gang suspected to have killed Mukiibi is still on the loose, says Mukiibi had intimated to family members that he trusted a close friend to collect the Shs4million part payment that was never delivered to him and part of the money could have been used to procure his killers.
Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi confirmed the police were aware of the case and have launched investigations.

A brief prepared by a family member and shared with the police, a copy of which this newspaper has seen, indicates that the musician was tracked on a day he was spending a night at his mother’s house in Mutungo.

A vehicle with his suspected killers arrived at the house and tried to convince him to move with them. When he declined the invite, they are believed to have forcefully dragged him into the vehicle and sped off. This was the last time he was seen alive.
