MBALE: Police in Mbale District are investigating circumstances under which the Mbale District NRM vice chairperson, Mr Muhammad Gusaga, sold a house constructed for him by the party, without the knowledge of the secretariat.

It’s alleged that Mr Gusaga, commonly known as “yellow man”, bartered the house worth Shs700 million for two cars, a BMW and a Mercedes Benz on December 27 last year after they entered into an agreement with the buyer, identified as Mr Asuman Masudi, a businessman based in South Africa.

The house is located at Bugema “B” village, Marale parish, Bukasakya Sub County in Mbale district. The building contains a main house, guest wing and rental units.

The Elgon Police spokesperson, Mr Suwed Manshur, confirmed the development, saying police have also taken over the premises.

“The wife reported the case to police that the husband had sold a family house without her knowledge and since then, they have been left homeless,” he said.

The house was constructed and handed over to his family by the NRM party officials in 2014 as a token of appreciation to the family’s contribution to the party.

Mr Manshur said they have also arrested the buyer, Mr Masudi on the advice of the Senior State Attorney to help with the investigations.

“We got the advice from the State Attorney to cause arrest of the suspect as investigation continues,” he said, adding that upon his arrest, they discovered that he had more than four passports under different names.

Mr Manshur said preliminary investigations indicate that cars used to buy the house were acquired fraudulently.

According to the letter dated February 12 signed by the Mbale District NRM chairperson, Mr Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo, NRM party through state house built for the family that house in appreciation for their contributions to the party.

“This home was handed over to him and his wife by the NRM authority and the party was planning to give more help to the family because of the continuous contributions the family has given to the party,” the letter reads in parts.

Mr Masaba said no one has powers to sell the house without the approval of the party secretariat.

Ms Rehemah Muzaki, wife to Mr Gusage told Daily Monitor that it all started when Mr Masudi, approached her husband claiming that they want to rent the home.

“My husband told me that he has got tenants to rent part of the house,” Ms Muzaki said, adding that after two days she was told that someone had bought the whole house.

“I tried to seek explanation from him but in vain. I decided to report the case to Mbale central police station,” she said.
