Police promote gold medallists Cheptegei, Chesang

KAMPALA-The leadership of Police has Friday recognised and promoted two Commonwealth gold medallists, Joshua Cheptegei and Stellah Chesang from the rank Special Police Constables (SPC) to Inspector of Police (IP).

Their colleague, Mercyline Chelangat who scooped a bronze medal at the Gold Coast, Australia event, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP).

Cheptegei and Chesang were promoted at a function that was presided over by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Martins Okoth-Ochola at Naguru Police Headquarters.

By virtue of their promotion, their monthly salary has jumped from Shs270, 000 to close to Shs500, 000.

A day after the trio won medals, deputy police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango, said they were to be promoted to appreciate their effort towards raising the Uganda flag.
