Detectives yesterday interrogated three Imperial Royale Hotel officials for more than seven hours over workshop money for the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The officials, including the financial controller, accountant and the marketing executive, recorded statements explaining whether the Works ministry organised a workshop at the hotel between January 8 and 9, 2013.

The trio and seven ministry officials were arrested on allegations of fraudulently taking Shs76 millon on pretext that they had organised a two-day residential workshop to sensitise transport stakeholders at the Hotel.

Some of the officials arrested include the acting Transport commissioner, Ms Rose Mary Tibiwa, the civil engineer, Mr Roger Kisambira, and an economist, Mr Anthony Kwesiga. The officials are still detained at Jinja Road and Kabalagala police stations.

A police source said the officials were meant to organise a half-day workshop but they did not.

Efforts to get a confirmation comment on the investigations from the Director of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, Ms Grace Akullo, were futile.
